Speaking with newsmen shortly after her inauguration, the newest Notary public in Benue state briefed them on the requirements, qualifications and duties of Notary public that: a Lawyer must be of exemplary conduct, pay Bar practising yearly fee, pay branch dues where they belong and questions are asked in their jurisdiction to know if they are qualified to be Notary public.

“When it came to my turn too, such questions were asked and I was informed that there were such inquries about my person. So, when everything was done, the CJN transmitted a letter to the Chief Judge to stand in his place so that they can administer oath on me just as they have done this morning.
” My function is to notarize documents for the public, those documents that I know are not fraudulent such as travel documents. For instance, there are certain Agencies or foreign Embassies and all that, that require that documents must be notarized by a Notary public, students studying abroad and even those things that the Commissioner of Oath does, in the absence of the Commissioner of Oath, a Notary public like me can also do that.

“I am so fulfilled and excited. I am believing that this is a stepping stone because shortly, I will be applying for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) which is one of those things accompanying such persons who are so confident, qualified and like the Law like me”, Chief Ekpendu optimized.
