Benue State Executive Council on Wednesday honoured Benue born Super Falcons striker, Francisca Ordega and Super Eagles Central midfielder, Ogenyi Eddy Onazi for their outstanding performance at the national level which has made their state popular and proud.
Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom, his Deputy Engr Benson Abounu, state Commissioner in charge of Youths and Sports, Hon. Mrs Ladi Isegbe as well as other members of the Council gave the two footballers a standing ovation for being ambassadors of the State and the country in general.
The Governor said the excellent performances of Ordega and Onazi for the national teams and their respective clubs had put the name of the state on the global map of sports.
He urged them to sustain their discipline and hard work as he promised them unflinching support by the State Government.
In their separate remarks, the honorees expressed gratitude for the recognition given them by the Sate Executive Council, saying it will reinforce their efforts.
Ogenyi Onazi pledged his determination to attract investment opportunities back home while Francisca Ordega appealed for support from the government for a female football team she was intending to establish in the state.
Onazi who told TheSKY Newspaper that he played last for Denizlispor Football Club, Turkey disclosed his intention to join another Club soon.
