Governor Matawalle Did Not Break Compaign Promise To Give Scholarships

The Zamfara state government under the leadership of governor Matawalle has sponsored 200 qualified indigent students drawn from the 14 local government areas in the State to study different courses outside the country, such as engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and paramedical courses, in Cyprus, India, Sudan and China.

In a related development within 100 days in office governor Matawalle paid N300,000,000,.00 out of the N 1,200,000,000. Owed to WAEC. In addition 2020 WAEC and NECO were fully paid for the final year secondary school students.

The government has released counterparts funds to the universal basic education board which made it possible Zamfara to draw matching grants for 2017, 2018 and 2019 to tune of N 5.5 billion naira.

According to him Sahara reporter, report that the leadership of National Union of Zamfara State students ( NUZAMSS) had on Wednesday stormed the state government house to register their anger against Matawalle failure to pay for their scholarships

He said Governor Matawalle approved the verification committee in February 2020, but due to the Covid -19 pandemic lockdown and ASUU strike the committee didn’t conduct the physical verification as a result of all colleges, and universities were closed.
