OVER 10.000 SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE FARMERS IN ZAMFARA WILL BENEFIT FROM THE WORLD BANK APPEALS PROJECT

The Zamfara State Government makes all efforts to mediate between Federal Government and International Organizations to key into the available support programmes for the improvement of economic and sustainable values of the State and its people.

The State Deputy Governor Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Muhammed had of recent made an advocacy visit to the office of the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono. The visit sought the Honourable Minister to consider Zamfara State as one of the frontline States to benefit from the World Bank Agro Processing, Productivity, Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) program.

Barrister Mahdi Aliyu, intimated the Honourable Minister on the intention of Zamfara State Government to restore into proper perspective the existing partnership between the State, Federal MDAs and international organizations for people to benefit from different support initiatives of the World Bank and Development Partners.

He also asured the Minister of State Government readiness to cooperate with the Ministry on any programme beneficial to the needed development of people and the State in general.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of agriculture Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono expressed optimism on the high level advocacy accorded him by the Deputy Governor.

According to the Minister, the visit of this magnitude is timely and welcome development as the government of Zamfara showed greater concern on the flights of its citizens by engaging relevant MDAs for viable projects and initiatives through agricultural supports aimed at alleviating the sufferings of Nigerians.

Alhaji Mohammed Musa Nanono confirmed to the Deputy Governor that the World Bank assessment result qualified Zamfara to benefit from the APPEALS project which will empower over Ten Thousand small and medium scale farmers on crops and animals production, processing and marketing.

He, urged the State Government to ensure application of different monitoring strategies to beneficiaries at grassroots level when the programme commences.

In attendance were the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Zamfara State Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Aminu Suleman Yarkofoji, Honourable Special Adviser to the Minister, and some Senior Directors of the Ministry.
