Saraki, Alhassan, Talle, Others Honoured With Traditional Titles By Sarkin Ruwa Makurdi me on

The Hausa Community in Makurdi has honoured their illustrious sons who have distinguished themselves in various positions and have touched the lives of their people positively.

The conferment of the honorific titles on these worthy personalities took place over the weekend at the palace of Sarkin Ruwa Benue, Alhaji Suleiman Saidu who performed the ceremony.
Alh. Shehu Saraki, a senior Protocol Officer with NNPC Towers, Abuja was given the Chieftaincy title of ‘Wallen Ruwa Makurdi’, meaning The Defender.

Alh. Saraki told newsmen that his honour was a kind of appreciation for his past humanitarian services to the community. He said they should call on him any time they need his assistance and he will come as usual.
Another Honoree was Alh. Rabiu Alhassan who works with the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Abuja.
Rabiu said he had worked with three Benue Governors namely: Akume, Suswam, Ortom and now he works with the Chief Justice of Nigeria at the Supreme Court.
He was bestowed with the title of Sardauna Ruwa of Makurdi which according to him means the Coordinator of Home, a title of prominence.

Other titles held by Alh. Rabiu before include Dan Galadima of Makurdi and Wakilin Sarkin Lafia in Benue which means the representative of the Emir of Lafia. He synergizes and coordinates the activities between the Nasarawa Emirate and the Benue state Government.
Alh. Umar Idris Talle was conferred with the title of Wakili Sarkin Ruwa Makurdi and he dedicated it to his community for finding him worthy of the honour. Alh. Idris said he was very happy for the title given him and it will spur him to do more for the community.
Alh. Idris Nuhu Sharif, a former Special Assistant to the former Nigerian Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar was honoured with the traditional title of Jarmai Sarkin Ruwa Makurdi. He thanked the community for finding him worthy of the recognition and said he was reinforced to do more for his people.
Hon. Hassan Na’laraba, a staff of the Ministry of Information Makurdi and member of the Hausa community while speaking with journalists helped to elaborate on other titles given to some deserving people who could not be reached for interview. One of them he said was Mr John Asen Loko was honoured with the title of Dan Amana. Another title to another honoree was Sarkin Yaki, meaning the Grand Commander.
Hon. Hassan further explained that the present Sarkin Ruwa Makurdi, Alh. Suleiman Saidu was the leader of river Benue only within his locality .

He urged the titleholders not to limit their assistance to the Hausa community but extend it to the entire Benue state.
