On Wednesday, two members of the House of Representatives dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers are David Abel from Gashaka/Kurmi/Sardauna Federal Constituency in Taraba State and Ephraim Nwuzi, representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in Rivers State.
Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, disclosed this while reading letters of their defection on the house floor during plenary.
While Reacting to their defections; the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu; Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu, and leader of the PDP caucus, Kingsley Chinda, urged Gbajabiamila to declare their seats vacant.
Gbajabiamila, however, faulted the point of order raised by the opposition leaders.
He described them as hypocrites, adding that PDP failed to lay the foundation of sanctioning illegal defections while in power.
He said, “Like you used to tell me, your points are noted. Any more defections?”
